Description: The Essex County C.O.A.S.T (Community Outreach and Support Team) program is a collaborative initiative put forth by the Ontario Provincial Police and the Community Crisis Centre at Hôtel Dieu Grace Hospital. This program has been put in place to address the gap in the continuum of existing crisis services. The Essex County C.O.A.S.T. unit was formed to provide an integrated community based response to the target population; namely individuals with a mental illness who are in severe distress, or who are experiencing a crisis and whose needs are not being effectively met within the current system. The Essex County C.O.A.S.T. members will attend the individual’s residence and the mental health worker will attempt to engage the client and work with them to facilitate the most optimal outcome to the situation.

Referral: This program accepts referrals from anyone who is concerned about another person’s mental health status or psychosocial situation. Referrals can also be anonymous.
