Description: Youth Diversion is committed to supporting youth exhibiting at-risk behaviours and encouraging them to reach their full potential. Our programs encourage youth to develop skills that promote a positive response to self, others and the community. We are focused on fostering values such as integrity, responsibility, commitment and caring for young people and their families in our community. We promote and encourage changed attitudes and behaviours by providing challenging, accommodating programs and services in a variety of inviting settings. We support youth who are experiencing difficulties at home, school or with the law.Youth Diversion provides a series of eight youth programs that focus on building confidence, making healthy decisions and improving communication. Rebound Life Choices – 10 week social skills program for youth who show signs of being at-risk of dropping out of school, being in trouble with the law or having difficulties with parents/teen interaction. Topics include communication skills, decision making, goal setting, teamwork, anger management, peer pressure, self respect, drug awareness, bullying and the law. M.E.S.S.A.G.E – Learn about the dangers and consequences of “Sexting”,self exploitation, cyber bullying and harassment. (Females Only) R.E.S.P.E.C.T – Learn about the legal ramifications of “Sexting”, sexual exploitation, harassment, ethical conduce and healthy relationships. (Males Only) Beyond Bullying Program – An educational program that teaches youth about the devastating consequences as well as the legal consequences of bullying. Teaches youth how to use alternative methods to resolve conflicts. Teen Intervene- A brief substance abuse intervention that identifies the reason for why teens are using drugs and alcohol and learn new ways to make healthier choices. Substance Abuse Program – a 12 week program that examines coping skills, relapse prevention, and risk factor management tools. The ultimate goal of the program is harm reduction. Topics include exploring underlying areas of vulnerability, addressing denial, resistance and other defenses, raising awareness of consequences of one’s own behavior, building motivation to make personal changes, identifying triggers, links to anger, anxiety and fear, relapse prevention, becoming a stronger person, coping skills for relapse prevention, healthy relationships and healthy boundaries, as well as instilling safety nets for the future. L.O.S.S. Program – Educating young people on the consequences and impact of shoplifting.
